He was married to Mary E. Nye on 28 Oct 1838 in Ohio. Mary E. Nye was born about 1820. She died on 25 Jun 1883 in Urbana, IL. Richard Allen and Mary E. Nye had the following children:

2757 ii. Sarah Allen was born in 1843.
2758 iii. Samuel Allen was born in 1844. Lived in Fairbury, Nebraska in 1928 at the time of his brother Joseph's death.
2759 iv. Caroline Allen was born in 1846.
2760 v. Ira Allen was born in 1848. Lived in Urbana, IL in 1928 at the time of his brother Joseph's death.
